Great insight. I wasn't thinking about the information aspect at all, but you are spot on.
You're also correct that the general public seems to see & accept these individuals as they are - shrewd, ruthless, sociopaths but are continually surprised at their actions.
I wouldn't say that I personally am "surprised" by the relentless heartlessness, but rather, I am continually disturbed. Just because these kinds of behaviors are becoming more and more normalized, doesn't mean that they have lost their shock value.
It is shocking to me that someone would think they deserve the servitude of the masses just because...what? They have all the money? The power? History proves that money and power are fleeting - as is the human timeline.
It is shocking to me that an individual would place their own extreme comfort above the betterment of society - a society they exist in.
It is shocking to me that MORE is never enough for these kinds of people when so many have less than they should.
Is this naïve? To be shocked at the blatant disregard for human life and connection - perhaps. Especially in 2022. But, I don't see my shock as a lack of understanding. Instead, when I express my discomfort, concern, or appalled reaction to yet another billionaire's antics it is because I still believe in the power of human kindness and decency. I still dream of a world that holds these values above those associated with ownership - of things or others. I need to talk them out, say what is weighing on me, and know that I am not alone in my disgust or my frustration at the individual inability to affect bigger change.
I'm not missing the point of what the hyper elites are capable of, I am simply shocked that their version of life is what has taken hold of us all.
